I agree with you Dr. Mike, that mom and other parents need to take these phones off these kids, they do not need to have a phone constantly like they do. Texting is such an addiction to these kids. That mom probably won’t do anyting until her daughter is dead, or someone else is and she looses her house (if she owns one) and a lot more. Parents need to take control and stop trying to be a friend to there kids.

  2. Great stuff as usual I totally agree with the ownership aspect and the fact that people generally won’t or don’t take responsibility.
    Thanks

I agree with you Dr. Mike. If that mom doesn’t take the responsibility now is she going to take it if her daughter gets in an accident. Hurting herself or an helpless bestander. Will the daughter blame someone else if an accident happens involving her but is caused while both are texting?

Dr. Mike – you are right on target – this mom needs to take her phone and car away now. Thanks – I am going to make sure my 16 year old sees your video.

In addition to being a full time teacher I am a part time driving instructor. We use this Dr. Phil video and a driving simulator to let students experience the danger of texting and driving. To their surprise most can not make it out of the simulator parking lot or the first intersection without failing the simulated drive. To my surprise about a fourth of every new class admits their parents or older siblings text and drive. They do appreciate this hands on lesson and I hope to make arrangements to do a workshop at my high school for students to try the simulator for texting and drunk driving. No one in our driving school has every come close to passing those two tests. In these two cases failing a test may save a life.

I can’t believe how the girl laughed it off and justified her actions to Dr. Phill. Mom needs to take the car or take the phone, give the girl the choice.

Great video Dr. Mike. I so agree with you. Having teens I know that this is a problem for all of us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the Dr. Phil clip. Very informative and very scary too.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

That mother needs to take control of her daughter! There are MANY things she can do to prevent her from texting and driving! It’s scary to hear the things the daughter has already done… you are right, she is a driving time bomb and I hope we aren’t on the road when she is!

Hey Dr Mike, I totally agree with you! Mom needs to step up to the plate and give some tough love! It’s hard because over the years as parents we have become soft me included! Ultimately IMHO kids love structure and boundaries and eventually if you stick to it they come to respect you for it!

When I was a kid growing up in the sixties/seventies in a loving family environment I listened to my parents and whether I agreed or not I knew that ultimately they had the last word! Parents around the world needs your audio and book Dr Mike!

This girl and mother are both neglecting their responsibility to society. They obviously don’t care if they kill someone. The mother needs to get a spine and take away the phone or the car or BOTH until the girl “gets it”.

I am a teacher and have your book and poster. I use the poster in class and when a student acts up (elementary age), I go down the list of responsibility. The student “gets it” when I get to the bottom of the poster. I love it! By the way, I am retiring this year and am passing on your poster and book on to my former student teacher, who is now a full time teacher.
